John Daniel Singleton was born on January 6th, 1968 in Los Angeles, California, he is the son of Danny Singleton who was a mortgage broker and
Shelia Ward who was pharmaceutical company sales representive. John Singleton attented University of Southern California where his campus
involvement including pledging and being initiated into the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, He as also received many distictions, begining his time as an
undergraduate screenwriter at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, Including nominations for Best Screenplay and Director
for Boyz N The Hood in 1991. The idea for this screenplay came from John Singleton's experience's as youth as he struggling with poverty and
high crime rates. In Boyz N The Hood, feauturing a strong African American cast which included, Cuba Gooding Jr., Ice Cube and Lawrence
Fishbourne. At the age of 24, the youngest individual and the first African American ever to be nominated for a Best Director Academy Award,
John Singleton made movie history with Boyz 'N the Hood, his astonishing 1991 directorial debut. Later that year John Singleton decided to
make a follow up film or as a sequel called Girlz N The Hood. However any major movie company's will not help fund the screenplay. John
Singleton said that "I wanted to do something street, but something different," Singleton explained in Essence magazine. "With Doughboy I
dealt with the insecurities of Black men. So I thought, Why not do a movie about a young sister and how all the tribulations of the brothers
affect her?" John Singleton's intention's for this film changed into another idea called, Poetic Justice which came out two years later, starred
Janet Jackson as Justice, a young girl who works in a beauty salon and writes poetry, award-winning writer Maya Angelou supplied the poetry
for the film.
The film also feautred Tupac Shakur who falls for Justice. The film recived bad critics, and that the film were loosely tied
together. The film only peaked 30 million dollars in box offices. In three years, John Singleton married Ghanian princess and actress Akousa
Cynamara, they had one child togther named Hadar Singleton, but they divorced in 97. As the following years started to wind down ,John
Singleton has made some outstanindg movies, like Rosewood, Higher Learning, Shaft, Baby Boy, 2 fast 2 furious and 4 Brothers. John
Singleton had also produced a large array films, like Black Snake Moan and Illegal Tender just to name a few. John Singleton has overcame his
struggles to become his dream job and that is to become a film director, he make's sure that African Americans can get notorized as well.
